Contents and objects of religious education

The question of how religious education achieves its content is currently being examined from several perspectives in the Wuppertal Protestant religious education department. An anthology with perspectives from different voices from religious education and other theological disciplines has already been published. In addition, internal insights from curriculum work are being gathered by conducting interviews with those involved in various curriculum and education plan commissions.

Tanja Gojny (project leader): Perspectives of actors on the conception, creation and approval of religious education curricula

The process of developing education and curricula for religious education has hardly been analysed in religious education research to date. In particular, the perspectives of those responsible for educational plans have not yet been analysed. With the help of expert interviews, we are therefore investigating the internal views of those involved in curriculum and education plan work across all federal states.
In addition to perceptions of the development of curricula and educational plans and criteria for the selection of objectives and content, the research also focuses on the experts' assessments of the challenges of curriculum work and their ideas on how religious education curricula and curriculum work can be optimised.

Tanja Gojny / Susanne Schwarz / Ulrike Witten (eds.): "How does religious education get its content?"

"How does the content get into religious education?"

This question leads directly to the centre of religious education. Current challenges for religious education such as secularisation and pluralisation as well as new requirements, e.g. in the course of competence orientation and digitalisation, pose the question of content anew and vehemently. The contributors advance this discourse from historical, systematic, normative and empirical perspectives. They thus provide an indispensable basis for all those responsible for the selection and didacticisation of religious education content in theory and practice.

The anthology "Wie kommt der Religionsunterricht zu seinen Inhalten?" can be downloaded free of charge as an open access publication.
